The difference between evaporator and condenser

What is the difference between evaporator and condenser? What is the difference between an evaporator and a condenser?

Recently, people often ask these questions. Jack Han will give you a brief introduction on the difference between evaporator and condenser.

Roughly speaking, the evaporator and condenser are both heat exchange equipment and there is no difference. However, there is a difference between an evaporator and a condenser in terms of usage. The condenser is used to discharge heat, and the evaporator is used to absorb heat. This is just a rough point of view. If you want to understand the difference between an evaporator and a condenser, you still need to understand what is an evaporator and what is a condenser.

As mentioned earlier, both evaporator and condenser are heat exchange equipment. What is a heat exchange equipment?
Heat exchange equipment refers to the need for two or more fluids with different temperatures to transfer heat between the fluids. The equipment that conducts heat transfer is called heat exchange equipment, so evaporator and condenser are both Heat exchange equipment.

What is an evaporator?
The evaporator is a unit operation that uses a heating method to heat a solution containing different substances and non-volatile solutes to a boiling state, so that part of the solvent is vaporized and removed at the same time, thereby increasing the concentration of the solution in the solvent. The evaporator is mainly composed of two parts, a heating chamber and an evaporation chamber. The heating chamber provides the heat required for evaporation to the liquid to promote the boiling and vaporization of the liquid. The evaporation chamber is a component that completely separates the gas and liquid phases.

What is a condenser?
The condenser is a part of the refrigeration system and a part of the complete evaporator system. The condenser is mainly used to discharge heat. It can convert gas or steam into liquid, and release the heat in a fast way. The working process of the condenser is an exothermic process. During the evaporation process, the device that converts steam into liquid is also called a condenser. All condensers operate by taking away the heat of gas or steam.

The difference between evaporator and condenser
From the above concept of evaporator and condenser, it can be seen that the difference between the two is that the condenser is mainly used to discharge heat, while the evaporator is used to absorb heat.

The difference between the evaporator and the condenser is mainly the different working form. The evaporator is the medium that absorbs heat to vaporize and absorbs external heat, while the condenser is the equipment to cool the medium and liquefy, and release heat to the outside. The evaporator and condenser are also different in structure. In the evaporator design, the selection and design should be carried out according to the evaporation capacity and evaporation materials of the whole system.

Air conditioning heat exchanger

In the condenser design, the flow paths should be divided. The inlets of different paths should be as close as possible, the outlets should be as close as possible, and the inlets and outlets should be as far away as possible to avoid part of the heat exchange due to reheating and to avoid uneven flow distribution. In actual design, if there are more than two branches, a centralized liquid separator and liquid collector should be used to make the flow between different flow paths as uniform as possible. The tube lengths of different flow paths are preferably the same, and they should flow evenly across the windward and leeward sides to make the heat transfer uniform.

The above is a brief introduction to the difference between an evaporator and a condenser. The difference between an evaporator and a condenser is that one is a heat release device and the other is a heat absorption device.
